Tunis and its coastal suburbs, including La Goulette and Carthage, are significantly threatened by rising sea levels and coastal erosion due to climate change. Projected sea level rise could reach up to 57 centimeters by 2100, endangering historic sites like the UNESCO-listed Carthage and critical urban infrastructure. Annual coastal erosion rates, with some areas losing several meters of coastline, pose additional risks to these areas' cultural heritage and economic activities, especially tourism. Effective adaptation measures, including reinforcing coastal defenses and revising urban planning, are essential to mitigate these impacts.
